Covering Everglades-related Literature
Search these databases to find Everglades-related information that is NOT available on
the Everglades Digital Library. These databases cover the published print literature,
i.e., articles from scientific journals, general interest magazines, and newspapers.
All of these databases are available to FIU faculty, students and staff. Many of them
are also available at other libraries in Florida and beyond.

AGRICOLA (National Agriculture Library)
Covers every major agricultural subject, including agricultural engineering and marketing,
animal breeding, entomology, environmental pollution, farm management, foods and feeds,
pesticides, rural sociology, veterinary medicine, and water resources. Citations consist of
journal articles, book chapters, monographs, conference proceedings, serials, technical reports,
and other materials on a range of agricultural topics.

Applied Science & Technology Abstracts (H. W. Wilson Company)
Leads users to the latest findings in every area of science, engineering, and technology. Covers
trade and industrial publications, journals issued by professional and technical societies, and
specialized subject periodicals.

ASFA: Aquatic Sciences & Fisheries Abstracts (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts)
The ASFA database provides citations and abstracts of the world's literature
dealing with the science, technology and management of marine, freshwater and
brackish water environments and organisms. This source combines three major
files that cover the biological sciences and living resources; ocean technology,
policy and non-living resources, and aquatic pollution and environmental quality.
Two specialized files are also included, which are aquaculture and marine

BasicBIOSIS (BIOSIS)
A subset, by journal title and year, of BIOSIS Previews. Provides information on recent
developments in 96 subject areas of the biological and biomedical sciences covering the most
prestigious journals. Available in U.S. only.

Biological & Agricultural Index (H. W. Wilson Company)
Provides information from groundwater pollution to genetic engineering and covers the entire
range of sciences related to biology and agriculture. Indexes 226 key periodicals in the life
sciences and agriculture. Includes current book reviews.

Biological Sciences (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts)
This interdisciplinary database offers abstracts and citations to a wide range of research in
biomedicine, biotechnology, zoology and ecology, and some aspects of agriculture and veterinary
science. Supporting over two dozen areas of expertise, this CSA database provides access to literature
from over 6000 sources including serials, conference proceedings, technical reports, monographs and
selected books and patents.
- BIOSIS
Major, comprehensive index to journal articles, proceedings, and other
publications in biology, biomedicine, and the biosciences.
Includes abstracts. 1989 - present on numerous separate disks.
Updated quarterly.

Current Contents (Institute for Scientific Information)
This file consists of seven Current Contents databases covering about 6600 journals, over the
last 12 months, in science, technology, medicine, social science, business, the humanities, and
popular culture. A search automatically includes all the databases, but the scope may be
limited.

Sciences & Pollution Management (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts)

A database of key areas of environmental science, including toxic hazards of chemicals,
pharmaceuticals, and other substances; air, marine, and freshwater pollution as well as
biochemical applications in water treatment and pollution are also covered.

Contains citations with abstracts covering worldwide literature on geography, geology,
ecology, international development, and their related disciplines. Subject coverage includes
cartography, climatology, energy, environment, geomorphology, hydrology,
photogrammetry, sedimentology, geochemistry, geophysics, paleontology, petrology,
volcanology, and much more.

Florida Documents Index
This online database identifies publications housed in the Florida Documents Collection at
Florida Atlantic University (FAU). The collection includes public documents distributed by the
State Library of Florida since 1967 under the Florida Public Documents Depository Program.
FAU began systematically collecting Florida documents early in 1966 and has since been able
to acquire a substantial number of state documents published prior to that date, as well as
documents not distributed through the depository program.

Represents the last ten years of the PAIS (Public Affairs Information Service) database, which
covers the spectrum of public policy/public affairs information most relevant to researchers,
students, administrators, legislators, and business and financial

Full-text coverage of Miami's leading daily newspaper, with frequent coverage
of Everglades restoration, sugar industry, water supply and other environmental issues.
Available on CD at FIU Libraries/University Park.

The New York Times (New York Times)
Offers full text of within published The New York Times newspaper articles. Includes all articles
90 days for delivery as ASCII fullÜtext documents. An abstract and index database is
maintained with coverage from January 1994 to the present.
