What's Hot

Measured usage of the Everglades Digital Library remains high, surpassing 76,000 hits in November 2007 or 2500 hits per day from users worldwide.  Among the visitors requesting Everglades-related information in the last two months were:

  • A producer from National Public Radio, seeking oral history recordings of Marjory Stoneman Douglas to use in their broadcast celebrating the 60th anniversary of Douglas’ landmark book, River of Grass;
  • An independent film maker working on a documentary about Everglades history;
  • A school teacher from the Florida Keys, looking for visual materials to use in the development of Everglades-related curriculum materials as part of an NSF grant;
  • An elementary school teacher in Vancouver B.C., asking about a plant mentioned in the book The Missing Gator of Gumbo Limbo, by Jean Craighead George (and thanks to botanists extraordinaire Tom Lodge and David Lee for contributing the expert answer for this question!);
  • A representative from the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery (SAVS), who needed background material for their President’s address on the Everglades scheduled for their annual conference in Naples, Florida;
  • An award-winning Pinellas County high school student seeking information for use in this year’s History Day project
