Equipment
The Digital Collections Center has developed a well-equipped production lab capable of converting a wide range of source materials: bound books and other printed documents, map sheets, photographs, ephemera, slide film and transparencies, and three-dimensional artifacts and realia.
Digitization equipment includes Epson flatbed scanners, ATIZ planetary scanner, and high-speed duplex scanners with automatic document feeders. Additionally, in partnership with the FIU Division of IT Imaging Services, the Digital Collections Center has access to digitization equipment including a Kirtas - KABIS automated planetary scanner, i2S – Quartz A0 HD large flatbed scanner, Hasselblad – Flextight X5, and Nikon – Coolscan film scanners.
The Center is outfitted with state-of-the-art PC and Apple workstations and software to ensure the highest quality image processing, editing, quality control and high-capacity storage and transfer of large digital files.
