FIU's Digital Preservation program starts with building good objects from the get-go, adhering to international standards and best practices as documented in such sources as NISO's Framework of Guidance for Building Good Digital Collections. Using an automated tracking database, we effectively manage digital resources through the production workflow and throughout their lifecycle ; we document technical, administrative preservation and rights management metadata and we deposit archival masters in the Florida Digital Archive, or FDA, using the DAITSS METS SIP Profile . Through its agreement with FDA, FIU is assured that our digital resources remain available, unaltered, and readable into the future. For those materials designated to receive full preservation treatment, the Florida Digital Archive will maintain a usable version utilizing the best format migration tools available.
